In order to make room for right-hander Nick Adenhart on the roster, the Angels placed infielder Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. Izturis has not played since leaving Sunday’s game in Detroit with back spasms. He underwent an MRI and was examined by Dr. Craig Milhouse Wednesday.

In a related move, right-hander Kelvim Escobar was moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL. It’s a procedural move that clears a 40-man roster spot for Adenhart (who was not on the 40-man previously).
