Election tampering! And Angels lead, 8-2

June 24th, 2008, 5:23 pm · Post a Comment · posted by BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM

They ran the nightly Presidents’ Race here last inning and it is as choreographed as pro wrestling.

Lincoln and Roosevelt entered carrying a red, white and blue ribbon with Jefferson and Washington lagging behind. Suddenly — Lincoln and Roosevelt stopped on the warning track in right field and stretched the ribbon out, fooling Jefferson into thinking he was nearly the finish line.

But wait — it was a trick. Lincoln and Roosevelt used the ribbon to trip Jefferson. Washington was collateral damage and also went down leaving Lincoln and Roosevelt to race alone. But this Not-So-Honest Abe nudged Teddy into the wall along the right-field line and trotted home with the victory.

This kind of thing never happens in the Sausage Race.

In other news, the Angels are leading 8-2 after a solo home run by Elijah Dukes leading off the bottom of the fourth.
