Anderson explained

June 30th, 2008, 5:16 pm · 1 Comment · posted by Ellen Bell, Afternoon Angel

Garret Anderson is out of the Angels’ lineup for a second day in a row getting, as Manager Mike Scioscia said, time to ”let a little air out.” The definition there - to decompress, to relax, to regroup.

”I don’t think there’s a player I’ve seen that at some point doesn’t either try to do too much or gets out of the game a little bit,” Scioscia said. ”I think he’s pressing a little bit. I do. …

”This is an adjustment to try to get him to let a little air out.”

Anderson, who today is celebrating his 36th birthday, is hitting only .188 (15 for 80) in June with one home run and eight RBIs, by far his least productive month this season. In May, the Angels’ left fielder hit .343 (35 for 102) with three home runs and 16 RBIs.

This is the first time this season that Anderson has not been in the starting lineup in consecutive games. Scioscia said that Anderson likely would be back on Tuesday when the Angels’ see right-hander Rich Harden, but he could be back on the bench on Wednesday when Oakland throws another left-hander in Dana Eveland.
