Escobar on outing

Kelvim Escobar said that he he difficulty getting loose before his rehab assignment start for Rancho Cucamonga, but worked through it and was able to work three scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out four.

”I felt good and that’s the most important thing,” he said. ”I threw strikes and my changeup has been good.
They took some good swings but I changed speeds well at times. I have a real good changeup. I fool big league hitters with my changeup. … I’m just pounding the strike zone. When you’re in the big leagues you have to be able to hit the corners. Right now I don’t want to be too fine.

”I’m just attacking the strike zone and throwing the ball hard down in the zone.”

Escobar was not consistently in the 90s with his fastball, as he was in his first rehab outing last week in the Arizona Summer League, but that was not a concern.

”Today, because I knew I was going to be throwing more pitches, I was not trying to throw that hard,” he said. ”I was just working on my mechanics and letting it go.”
