A’s on top

July 11th, 2008, 7:51 pm · 7 Comments · posted by Ellen Bell, Afternoon Angel

Juan Rivera is getting playing time ahead of Gary Matthews because of his offensive potential, not his defensive ability. That has been obvious a few times already this season, and was in the second inning on Friday when the A’s took a 1-0 lead on Jon Garland and the Angels.

Mark Ellis led off the inning with a sinking line to left field and Rivera made an aggressive but futile dive at the baseball. He came up well short and when the ball bounced away, Ellis was able to cruise into scoring position and ended up crossig the plate on a single by Jack Hannahan.

Garland was able to minimize the damage, allowing only the one run in the inning. He has allowed five hits already.

What a disaster Jon Garland is. A huge disappointment. I wish we still had OC. He gave us a great #2 hitter at least. If you can’t beat the lowly AAA’s you stink as a pitcher, It looks like the Angels will have a 5th loss to the AAA’s now and three will be from Jon garland. I know one was an Adenhart start.

How can Jon Garland be around so long and struggle to get the third out? He seems to always have trouble doing that. I guess this shows how bad the Blue jays offense is. He pitched a complete game against those guys.

I’m not going to buy that he just doesn’t have his stuff tonight. His record against the A’s is horiffic. The Angels should really look into details like that before trading for a pitcher. He has to at least be able to beat your division rivals. You play a lot of games in your division.

I already turned this disaster off. I’m fed up with the horrible pitching this week. I think I’ll go find a new hobby. Someone tell me when the Angels decide to get their act together. What a lousy way to go into the All-Star break.

I just checked Gameday and I see Scioscia pulled a lot of the regulars. Way to give up. This is what I really hate. No fight in this team at all. They should go up trying to have good at-bats and get back in the game. They get down big and give up. Did the Texas Rangers give up down 10-4? No. what a shame to see quitters like that. I bet they all just want to get to their vacations or something. This isn’t what I call a champion. A champion never gives in. What made the 2002 Angels great was they wouldn’t be out of this game. No, those guys would come back and win. Or give it their all at least and not give up until the final out.

I see Darren O’Day at least pitched great. Why isn’t this guy used more? He got sent back to the minors and we were told it was to clean some things up but he looked fine to me. Then he came back up and stunk but now he looks good. I think that demotion was really dumb. The Angels seem to do that to a lot of young pitchers who have no problems.

O’Day is the only Angel who did anything tonight.

Jon Garland just had his 6th loss of the season. And three are to the lowly AAA’s. Disgusting. How can he struggle against such a bad team? You disgust me Jon Garland. Way to do your job.

  • Brian says:

Rex Hudler is funny. He wants the Angels to take third strikes. I think the only reason they struggled so much tonight is the huge hole Garland put them in. Garland does his job and the offense would have been much better.

He also talked about Juan Rivera’s defense in the outfield. We need Juan’s bat. I could care less about his defense. He needs to DH.

  • Barbara says:

Just curious Brian. Why do you call them AAA’s? Is there some hidden significance in that handle? Hey, you’re catching on! You don’t like it, don’t watch it! Period. (Watch the Dodgers) Nope, don’t like that either, huh? Have you tried golf?
