Now that you’ve read the news about the Dodgers’ three-team trade that brought they Manny Ramirez, what do you think about it? Is it exactly what they needed to put them over the top (especially in such a weak division) or are they still in some trouble.
[...] How big is Dodgers’ trade to get Manny Ramirez? [...]
Finally someone on the Dodgers who strikes fear into the opponent’s eyes. Too bad Jones couldnt be playing the way he was a couple of years ago because then you have him and Jones and that would be scary
I read some people were saying that Bay and Mannys numbers were similar this year….Do you think that maybe just maybe,,since Manny was so disgruntled with the Red Sox management, that his numbers came down???? I think this was HUGE for the Dodgers!!! Since Torre knows better than anyone on how to manage big egos!!! Regardless of what some people may think ( that Manny was a cancer blah blah blah) I think there must be something to what he was complaining about …the exit of Clemens, Pedro, Nomar, must mean something..they treat their star players like crap is my guess!!
The Dodgers made the BETTER trade for a number of reasons:
1. The Angels have been the class of the American League and were going to make the playoffs regardless of whether they added Teixeira or not. The Dodgers have been sputtering around the .500 mark for most of the season. Adding ManRam could help them overtake the Dbacks and propel them into the playoffs.
2. The Angels gave up MORE than the Dodgers did (respectively) to obtain the services of Teixeira. The Dodgers ‘only’ gave up LaRoche (who was falling even further down the depth chart with the emergence of Blake DeWitt), and Morris (a single A pitcher just coming off arm surgery). Whereas, the Angels gave up (starting first baseman) Kotchman, and (double A) pitcher Marek.
3. Finally, the Teixeira trade ADDS about $4 million to the Angels $119 million payroll, while the Dodgers acquisition of Ramirez adds NOTHING to their payroll since the Red Sox will be paying the balance of ManRam’s salary this season!
For the reasons above, I would argue that the acquisition of Manny Ramirez will help the Dodgers MORE, while costing them LESS than the Angels acquisition of Mark Teixeira did respectively.
When Manny came out for that curtain call I got goosebumps. It feels like something special. Go Blue!
