Angels third baseman Chone Figgins was not in the starting lineup Tuesday after getting hit in the right elbow by a pitch during Monday’s game. Figgins said the elbow was still “pretty sore” and he was having difficulty flexing it to throw or swing right-handed.
“We’re going to give him a day see how this thing works itself out,” manager Mike Scioscia said before the game. “Throwing was going to be a problem tonight and that being his lead arm if he was batting right-handed, it would have been difficult for him to extend.”
With the Yankees starting left-hander Andy Pettitte Wednesday, the switch-hitting Figgins could get another day off.
“You know me – I don’t want that,” Figgins said with a smile. “If I can play, I want to play.”
