Yankees catcher Ivan Rodriguez was not in Tuesday’s starting lineup because of what manager Joe Girardi described as “whiplash”.
Rodriguez was involved in an on-field altercation with Angels outfielder Torii Hunter in the sixth inning of Monday night’s game. He gave Hunter a one-armed shove after tagging him out. Hunter retaliated by running up to Rodriguez and shoving him from behind.
Both players were ejected from Monday’s game but Hunter was back in the lineup on Tuesday.
