Weaver will start Thursday

Pushed back twice, Angels right-hander Jered Weaver will return to the rotation and start against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Weaver has not pitched since August 30 after suffering cuts on the middle and ring fingers of his pitching hand a few days later during the Angels’ series in Detroit. Weaver tried throwing in the bullpen on Sunday in Chicago but the split skin re-opened and it was decided to give him a few more days to let the cuts heal over.

“It should be healed up by then,” Weaver said of pitching Thursday. “They just didn’t want me to go out there (sooner) and have it re-open again.”

Weaver played catch before Wednesday’s game and the cuts had “closed up enough” for him to grip the ball and pitch Thursday.

“I’ll probably just rub some stuff on it before the game to roughen it up,” Weaver said.
