Some day, Kevin Jepsen is going to have a lot of stories to tell his kids about the year 2008.
The trip to China for the Olympics. Making his major-league debut. Blowing a 95-mph fastball past the great Alex Rodriguez for his first major-league strikeout.
Making his playoff debut?
“No, I’m not thinking about that,” the Angels’ rookie right-hander said of speculation that he could make the Angels’ post-season roster. “I’m just trying to, when I get the chance to get in there, get the job done — whatever the situation, I’ll take it.
“I’m not really worried about anything else.”
Four spots in the Angels’ post-season bullpen are spoken for — closer Francisco Rodriguez, setup men Scot Shields and Jose Arredondo and left-hander Darren Oliver. Another will likely be taken up by the starting pitcher bounced out of the rotation (Jered Weaver?).
That probably leaves just one more spot for a reliever.
Please leave Speier off of the roster. I’m a big fan of his but this year has been horrible for him and there’s no way we can count on him to keep a game close and not give up the long ball which he seems to be doing every time he steps on the mound.
If you voted Speier you clearly have not been paying attention.
Who voted for Justin Speier? Red Sox fans maybe?
Anybody but him is OK with me.
Please leave Shields off the roster - Last year he was decent, but this year has been a complete disappointment. I don’t know if it’s a confidence thing, or possibly he’s injured - but we don’t need his inconsistency to bite us in the butt this go around. My vote is for anyone other than him
Please leave Speier at home and leave Oliver here to keep him company. Shields is very inconsistant so who knows what you get from him on any given night and most Angels fans can’t wait for F-Rod to leave town as soon as this season is over, which will end sooner than we want because of the bullpen.
Whoever is NOT voting for Jason Bulger clearly has not watched him pitch.
He’s pitched in tougher situations than Jepsen, and he has better stuff. There’s no reason for anybody BUT him to make the final spot.
Bulger is mentally tough and has had an inconceivable year in AAA. Last night three innings and no runs. He is the one I would like to see in there - Bulger is one you can count on.
