The Angels brass met in San Francisco to discuss offseason moves.
Angels officials will scramble to retain some players - and be glad to get from under the yoke of other contracts.
The contracts of several key Angels - most notably closer Frankie Rodriguez and first baseman Mark Teixeira - will expire after this season.
One casualty could be Garret Anderson, who at $12.6 million, one could argue, may be more than a little overpaid. The 36-year-old is batting .288 with 14 home runs - which right now averages out to about $900,000 per dinger.
Here’s the question: Which Angels are overpaid, and which are underpaid? Here’s where your two cents come in. Please vote on Angels who are overpaid, underpaid or get the right amount:
Frankie Rodriguez, $10 million
Garret Anderson, $12.6 million

Jered Weaver - a steal at $435,000?
Vladimir Guerrero, $15.5 million
Torii Hunter, $16.5 million
Juan Rivera, $2.025 million
Gary Matthews, $9.4 million
Mark Teixeira, $12.5 million

We all know Matthews and Garland are grossly overpaid but what I didn’t know and was quite shocked to see was how underpaid Saunders and Izturis are. People also need to remember Anderson is in the last year of a big but not huge contract which he signed while in his prime. People forget he signed for less money to stay in Anaheim. He could have gone somewhere else and made more but didn’t. I don’t always agree with his hustle or there lackof but he’s got character and I respect that. Afterall, Frankie is about to leave so he can make 3 or 4 million more a year. Pathetic.
all over paid!!!! a sport is a sport….not a job…its a hobbie….and that goes with every sport!!! theres alot of other under paid people in this world…and our focus is on baseball? pay others not players…the world we live in is insane!!!!! “Me”
OVERPAID? Let’s talk about the Overpaid, NOT GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS , YANKEES!!!!! It’s a good year!
Actually most all players are underpaid if you compare what they make against what the owners make. I hope the angels do overpay for another centerfielder this year like they have the past two seasons
I tend to agree with Anaheim86 above. All of sports is OVERPAID!! How can you justify paying large sums of money to men that play a game for a living??!!
Hopefully they pay, I don’t care if it’s overpaying, for a third baseman with some range and power. Put Figgins where he belongs, either in left field or on the bench.
Trade Matthews, or agree to not let him start more than 20 games a year.
Don’t pick up the option on GA, and either sign him for significantly less and see if that helps him find the missing points in the slugging %, or let him walk (something he rarely does).
It would be funny to see them overpay for another center fielder. Matthews was bad, not just the amount but the terms and length. Hunter’s contract is WAY to much. We needed a free swinging guy in the middle of the order like we need another case of pink eye, knee pain, and food poisoning this October.
Brandy: If we let Scioscia go, who is this new “Wonder” manager? Just because someone “new” is in there, doesn’t mean we’re going to rip off 5 World Series in a row. Mike will be here a long time, sorry. Managers can only do so much anyways. It’s the players that make or break it.
