Angels’ rookies get hazed

September 18th, 2008, 7:19 pm · 5 Comments · posted by BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM

It’s one of theĀ ugliest traditions in baseball.

Each year, usually on the last road trip of the season, the rookies on almost every team find their street clothes missing from their locker, replaced by some embarrassing costumes — frequently, women’s clothing — that they have to wear until they get to their hotel rooms in the next city.

(I will never be able to purge the awful memory of an Asian trainer whose height and circumference were roughly equal squeezed into a Hooter’s girl outfit when the Dodgers did the hazing a few years ago.)

It was the Angels’ turn after the series finale in Oakland Thursday. Seven first-timers were the victims — Bobby Wilson, Jose Arredondo, Darren O’Day, Sean Rodriguez, Freddy Sandoval, Matt Brown and Kevin Jepsen.

“Hey, Bobby — looking good,” one veteran hollered at Wilson as he paraded by in a ‘Sporty Spice’ ensemble complete with short skirt. “Is that from your closet at home?”

“Look good, feel good,” Wilson said.

Rodriguez and Sandoval were given Hooter’s outfits, Jepsen a snappy blouse-and-skirt combo and Brown a sparkly purple dress suitable for prom night. O’Day struggled to stretch a purple mini-dress over enough of his 6-foot-4 frame to avoid legal trouble. Arredondo was given a yellow dress that one teammate suggested made him look like Serena Williams.

Go Angels!…..I guess the best record in Baseball doesn’t qualify for some success in the post season….must be east coast fans again.
Maybe some of you sour when eliminated from the post season, but for many years, some of us just followed and rooted for the team, regardless of the record win or lose. Making the post season is an outstanding accomplishment and if you’re an Angels fan, support it no matter how far they go…..if not, return to your favorite team, however lower than the Angels they are…

Brandy needs to increase her medication. Not in touch with reality!!!!

You need to get the clue Brandy and quit hating. Forget about the fact the Angels absolutely demolished the Red Sox and Yankees throughout the series, they swept the Yankees right after they Yankess caught fire. Forget about the fact they have one of, if not the best pitching staff in baseball. The A’s were in contention until they traded away Harden and Blanton before the trade deadline.Nice try on trying to knock the Angels though, but there’s not alot to knock on them. Give credit where credit is due. Wait, you never said who your team was, please share with us
