Now that their spot in the playoffs is locked up, the Angels have a different magic number to keep an eye on — 9. That is the combined number of Angel victories and Tampa Bay defeats that will clinch the best record in the American League for the Angels (it is 7 to eliminate the Red Sox).

Here are the standings through Thursday:

Angels – 93-59

Rays – 90-61 (2 1/2 GB)

Red Sox – 89-63 (4 GB)

White Sox – 84-68 (9 GB)

Twins – 83-70 (10 1/2 GB)

The Angels also have a chance for the first 100-win season in franchise history, but need to go 7-3 the rest of the way to get there.
