A friend once advised me to do two things if I met a girl who liked baseball: Drop to a knee and propose.

That same friend - were he not divorced, broke and bitter - would probably be the first in line for this book signing.

Erica Boeke - co-author of “GameFace: The Kick-Ass Guide for Women Who Love Pro Sports” - will host a pre-game book signing and happy hour before the Sept. 26 game against the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Stadium Tavern,  305 N. Harbor Blvd. in Fullerton.

The book, according to the author, was written with the female sports fan in mind. Female fans, according to Boeke, have become more knowledgeable about the rules and strategies around the game.

According to Boeke, the new female fan “digs the Super Bowl for the on-field action – not just the halftime show. She tailgates days before the Daytona 500.”

But some things never change. Female sports fans still love to go shopping. Behold the numbers provided by Boeke and co-author Chris De Benedetti:

  • The NBA sold $100 million in merchandise for women in 2005.
  • Forty-six percent of all MLB-licensed apparel is purchased by women, according to the MLB.

I absolutely love sports and I personally find this new approach to sports - viewing for women refreshing…I would like to be able to have options. From what I can see there are plenty of them out there for male sports fans - not sure if you noticed the male-domination in the field of broadcasting, commentary, etc. in sports?

I love that we all have a chance and opportunity to debate the topic (even if some of us have physical sickness when doing so) - Thank you Erica and Chris for giving us a choice.
