Saturday night provided us (at least those of us at Angel Stadium) with a great reason for cutting the Rally Monkey loose.
The Angels were trailing, 8-2, in the seventh inning, as fans stood for their usual off-key rendition of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame.” This time, however, a few Miss America 2009 contestants stood on the roof of the dugout seats to lead the chorus.
Misses Indiana, Nevada, Georgia, Maryland and Texas certainly caught the attention of those seated in the vicinity. And the reason didn’t have anything to do with how well they could sing.
When the seventh-inning stretch was complete, the Angels got three consecutive hits in the bottom of the inning and scored a run.
OK…so they didn’t come back and win the game but the Rally Monkey doesn’t come through 100 percent of the time either.
I say we bring the pageant contestants back, just for experimental purposes. Let’s see if they do better than the Rally Monkey. Of course, for this to be legitimate, the comparison has to last about two or three seasons.
Since it’s not about winning or losing for those of us in the press box, I think I’ll pick the Miss America contestants every time - as long as Miss Maryland is among them.
wow that’s a lot of makeup.. but I definitely think Indiana is the winner here. Maryland for 1st runner up
still nice to have the rally monkey to fall back on!! go Halos!
WOW! and to think I missed seeing these babes for a pile of spilt cheese sauce - Doh.
Didn’t I seem them in last months Playboy? They all look airbrushed and fake.
Ya know? That is a lot of make up but if you need to paint the barn…then darn it…. paint the barn. But for us who would be sad to see the little monkey go…….snif, snif……LET HIM GO and bring on the Painters!!
c’mon is there anything that we dont glamourize anymore? leave the monkey be!!
