Angels lose Game 4

October 6th, 2008, 9:27 am · 22 Comments · posted by JEFF MILLER, OCREGISTER.COM

BOSTON - There it is, Halo fans, the headline that doubles as a dead-line.

No need to even watch tonight. Enjoy a fine, quiet evening with the family instead.

Can’t see the Angels winning Game 4 at Fenway Park. No way.

History says John Lackey won’t be good, his near no-hitter here in the regular season notwithstanding. There is just too much evidence pointing the other way.

The bullpen is gassed after Game 3 and this inconsistent offense isn’t likely to find 16 hits again.

Red Sox 5, Angels 1. Dustin Pedroia finally comes through and Boston advances.

The Angels fly back to Anaheim. Alone.

Jeff Miller, is this what you call journalism? Edward R. Murrow just rolled over in his grave.

  • bpsqwerty says:

let’s hope your jinx works… but we all know the reverse-jinx is never really good for much. it has no real effect, so the Halos will have to do it on their own. go Angels!!

  • HaloGeorge says:

Although you may have evidence to support your projection, I believe we all witnessed something last night we have not seen in this team for a long time…unbreakable determination. Last night built character in many ways and I believe this team has come out of their shell and are ready to sweep the last two games.
This is the best team in baseball for a reason, they are the real deal.

  • George says:

    Move to Boston, DUMMY!

  • bob says:

Are you seriously blogging this??? Another reason the Register is going the way of the dinosaur. Declining readers due to the internet and stupid writers.

  • Jack says:

This is stupidity at its best.. Jeff Miller is turning into Peter Vescey..

  • Feria Shani says:

It’s isn’t your fault… It’s the idiots that gave you this job!

  • Mark Hennemuth says:

Wow such horrible journalism. The last time Lackey pitched in Fenway he had a no hitter into the 9th. The Angels have hit Lester a bit including a win early in the year in Fenway.

But there is no way the Angels could win? But counting on Pedroia who is 0 for the series to come through is a lock?

Consider my subscription cancelled as soon as I get off work and I’ll be sure to mention this fine piece of “journalism”.

  • Allen Richard says:

The Angels are more likely to get a hit with risp, than Pedroia single handedly carrying the Boston team to a win.
The bullpen is taxed? Shields only threw 28 pitches. Arredondo 28. Oliver 7. Weaver 34. All of those guys have proven that they can pitch on back to back nights, and Weaver threw the equivalent o fless than a side session last night. The only one who might be tired is Krod.
Lackey has seen Boston many times, if he is on, he’ll be fine. Lester is coming back to face the Angels after 4 days, I’m quite certain they will have a better idea of what his stuff is like this time around. Jitters and a relatively unknown pitcher are no longer to Lester’s advantage, I expect a close game like the last 3.

And to the goofy guy writing this garbage, we all know you don’t understand much about the game. Wow, you are predicting a loss. How about if they win, you don’t write anything until the series is over? Hack

  • nate says:

hey Jeff - did a little research for you (see link).

nice reading you - for the first and last time.

  • kevin says:

    Moron! Moron! Moron! Moron!

  • BD says:

    JEFF MILLER IS A MORON

  • BRIAN PERDUE says:

Hey guys. I help with the Angels blog here at ocregister.com. … Wow Jeff. You’re getting some pretty critical responses. If the Angels win tonight, are you going to admit you were wrong in a post tomorrow?

  • Aaron says:

    Miller,

As long as we’re making unfounded predictions here with no worthwhile analysis: I’ll bet your hair falls out, you lose your job, and Mike Scioscia sends you a dead fish a la Luca Brasi. Just like your high school days, no one likes you and wouldn’t notice if you stopped showing up.

  • Mark says:

Kudos to you, Mr. Miller, for having the pair to be honest and not just another Angels suck-up. HaloGeorge, if the Angels were the best team in baseball, they would not be facing elimination. To bob, complain all you want, but YOU are still reading the Register, aren’t you? HA! To Mark H., the last two times Lackey has pitched he has been humiliated, so what’s your point? To Allen, how about if the Angels lose, Mike Scoscia resigns? To the rest of you whiners, deal with it, the Angels are overranked and only made it to the playoffs because they play in the smallest and weakest divisoon in baseball. If you guys really believed in this team, you’d be bugging MLB to even out the divisions and add a fifth team to the AL West. But none of you will ever do that, because deep down you know the Angels are a joke. They couldn’t even make it to the World Series until their division was reduced to four teams and the Wild Card was added. World Champs or World Chumps? I think we all know the answer to that.

  • bpsqwerty says:

by the way, how often does Lackey pitch 2 non-Lackey like performances in a row? ask yourself.

he is rested & ready… and the Angels have their groove goin’ after last night. you won’t see many errors in red either.

what you saw from Saunders, Weaver, Shields, Arredondo, and Frankie last night, and the bats coming alive when they hadto, should be indicative of what’s going to continue tonight.

just sayin… I still think you wrote this blog to try to put some hex on Boston, but just in case you didn’t, don’t say we didn’t tell you.

  • Allen Richard says:

To Mark : The Angels went 30 - 16 against the almighty East. The Red Sox went 38 - 34 against the same East the Angels humiliated all year long. If you want to find a team that made the playoffs because of a weak division, tune into the next Dodgers game.

  • cat says:

There may be a couple of guys making bonehead mistakes on that team, but a bigger problem is the BONEHEAD blogging for the OCReg. You guys, he’s just trying to get us riled up! He’s a moron, and I’ll bet he’s from Boston anyway. Whatever! Go Angels!

  • WTF says:

Is this piece written by Jeff Miller, OC Register.com or Jeff Miller, Boston Globe.com? Yo Jeff….if your mission was to stir up the Halo faithful, based on what’s posted below, you accomplished your objective. Now go away moron and don’t bother coming back to the OC….

  • Mark says:

Allen, quit being such a clueless Angels homer. If you haven’t figured out by now that regular season games and playoff games are completely different, then don’t even bother posting here. You are truly clueless. And if you want to talk about humiliation, let’s talk about Tampa Bay’s consistent pounding on the Angels all season long. Tampa Bay’s team salary was under $50 million, the Angels is up towards $200 million. If that doesn’t show how lame the Angels truly are, nothing does.

  • OC Sports fan says:

I guess Jeff knew what he was talking about. Unfortunately.
P.S. whats with the Red Sox merchandise advertisement
