Facilities are a big thing in college football and basketball recruiting. Which school has the best locker room, the biggest weight room, the best practice field?
It can play a part in a player’s decision-making process.
The same, in theory, could be the case with professional ball players.
If so, that could give the New York Yankees additional leverage when dealing with free agents this winter - above and beyond the millions that they have to spend renovating their roster.
The clubhouse at the new Yankee Stadium is said to be 25,000-square feet of spectacular, with computer screens in every locker, a staffed kitchen, state of the art weight room and other amenities.
Among the other perks?
An underground parking garage with an elevator that goes directly to the clubhouse.
Are you serious? Your point is that what may sway Tex. to sign a contract with the Yankees is the nice facilities of a new ball park. Must be a desperate Yankees fan. Two things will determine where this guy signs: money and future trips to the playoffs. He will get his money from whatever team signs him. But with an aging ball team, a sorry farm system and a very strong AL east division, I would not bank on the Yankees returning to the post season just yet. Not even a babbling Hank S. or the “mystic” of playing for the Yankees can change that.
So much for baseball players having the hard life. The argument used to be that professional sports weren’t glamorous because of all the travel and horrible conditions. I Guess that argument is out the window. Not only are they paid millions to play ball but they get five star treatment as well.
