The Seattle Mariners are having a hard time filling the position.
Not that the franchise is a mess or anything, saddled with some heavy contract baggage and a dysfunctional clubhouse.
But a number of potential candidates have begged off (including former Dodgers GM Paul DePodesta, currently working in the Padres’ front office) either by declining to be interviewed or having their current employers refuse to give the Mariners permission for an interview.
This update from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer does list Dodgers assistant GM Kim Ng as one of five candidates who have actually been interviewed by the Mariners.
The Mariners are a total mess and won’t challenge the West again any time soon. The Rangers and Angels are the “class” of the West and if the Rangers get pitching, look out. Oakland has a ton of talent but very raw but can compete again within the next few years.
I’ll be happy to take the Seattle job though, and will only charge $1m/year.
