Maddux likely to call it a career

November 4th, 2008, 2:13 pm · Post a Comment · posted by BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM

As he left the St. Regis last night, agent Scott Boras said one of his clients, Greg Maddux, will probably not play in 2009, calling it a career at age 42.

“He hasn’t made a final decision but right now it is doubtful he will play,” Boras said.

If Maddux walks away, he will finish as the eighth-winningest pitcher in baseball history. Only one pitcher since 1920 (Warren Spahn, 367) won more games than Maddux’s 355.

The four-time Cy Young Award winner went 8-13 in 2008 including 2-4 in seven starts for the Dodgers after a mid-season move from the Padres.
