Angels GM Tony Reagins refused to speak specifically about being on the list of teams 2007 Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy would consider waiving his no-trade clause to join.
But Reagins was not hesitant when told Padres GM Kevin Towers was using the five-player package the Rangers sent to the Braves in exchange for Mark Teixeira in July 2007 as an example of what it is going to take to make a deal for Peavy.
“I don’t envision that scenario taking place with the Angels,” Reagins said. “At least not that number of players.”
Towers has said the Padres are seeking multiple players that are ready “to make an impact on our major-league club next year” as well as additional prospects.
Why would we want a guy who is affraid to pinch in the AL. He oviously knows to stay in the weak NL, so that he doesn’t have to face the big bats in the AL.
It’s hard to go after a trade when there’s free agents available that can do the job. I might pursue the trade if all other options fail. We need a 5th starter but Peavy quickly becomes 1 or 2, at worst.
MariOC, your point is well-taken. It’s really odd how these guys think but he did say that he’d play for the Angels or Yankees. Guess he hates the Red Sox as much as we do? haha
