A Canadian newspaper - those guys will do anything to escape the cold - is reporting that the Angels plan to raise ticket prices by more than 6 percent:
Jeff Blair from globeandmail.com reports: “So for every indication that it isn’t ‘business as usual’ — the Arizona Diamonbacks fired 31 front-office employees last Friday — there are signs that it very much is business as usual. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are going to raise season ticket prices by more than 6 per cent.”
How much do Angel fans want Teixeira and/or other high-price free agents. What do you think?
I’m a season ticket holder and mine went up 5% this year. They have gone up every year I’ve had them and this is the sixth year. These are modest increases but I question the timing given the economic woes in the country. If they field a strong product again, I might forgive them for the increase!
Can we see the books? How much revenue is actually from ticket sales? Is it relevant to operating costs? Concessions, parking, it all adds up, I can’t afford it anyway.
I’ve been a season ticket holder for 28 years. I’ve seen the team horrible and teriffic. My tickets went up, but I have perfect seats in the view section and as long as I can afford them and the team is competive, I’ll be in my seat.
Moreno lowered the beer prices $0.25 and was called a “Fan’s Owner” when he first purchased the Angels. Soda’s are now $5.50
and my seats have gone up a total of 250% since he took over. My 2009 renewal just came in the mail and he raised them again by 54%.
The name change obviously have not created the new revenue sreams he desired. The Angels have won only 1 playoff series while he has owned them. I hope he sells the team to local interest and heads back to the Arizona desert before I am priced out of the ballpark that I have been going to since 1966.
6% is well worth it to sign Teixeira to a long term deal & get back to the post season! We need offense if we are going to raise the World Series trophy again. We are “this close” to making it happen but need big name free agents like Teixeira.
Edit to my previous post: revenue streams
Here’s the story, from last Saturday’s Los Angeles Times, not from a Canadian newspaper …
The Angels have raised season-ticket prices by an average of 6.4%, even as Commissioner Bud Selig has warned teams to be wary of the economic crisis and as the Dodgers have offered fans the chance to renew season tickets with no increase.
“Our objective is to continue to put a quality product on the field,” Angels spokesman Tim Mead said. “We’re affected by rising business costs as well. We believe our product continues to be very affordable.”
Mead said the anticipated average price of all tickets — not only season tickets — will be no more than $22. Team Marketing Report last season listed the average price for the Dodgers at $29.66 and the Angels at $20.78, excluding luxury seats.
I don’t go to games anymore. I’d rather watch on TV. The average fan can’t get a good seat. You pay at least 3X the amount for a hot dog and a coke that you’d pay at Der Wiensnitzel, and face it, the food is lousy. So, I’ll sit at home in comfort, watch the game on TV, and remember the good ol’ days when it was affordable and fun to go to the park.
Sign Tiexiera if he’ll stay. Dump Figgie, Aybar and Mathis. Let Wood and S. Rodriguez play full time. Give Kendrick one last season chance to stay healthy. The Angels can win the division, but they need players who won’t choke in the playoffs…..yeah, Figgie, I mean you!
After 10 years of Ownership my prices were jacked up 34% just because Im front row…my rep said he can relocate me back one row to save 34%
Thanks for rewarding long time consistant reliable fans…Im out to watch Cal State and the Farm teams !!
