Angels’ nemesis holds line on ticket prices

November 14th, 2008, 9:00 am · 2 Comments · posted by BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM

While the Angels are quietly increasing their ticket prices for the 2009 season, the Boston Red Sox held a press conference this week to announce that they would be freezing prices for 2009.

This is actually big news in Red Sox Nation — it ends a string of 14 consecutive winters during which the Sox had announced a ticket price.

Prices to get into venerable Fenway Park were already the highest in baseball — the average ticket price of $48.80 in 2008 was tops, according to Team Marketing Report.

The trickle-down benefit of shedding Manny Ramirez’s contract? Or a magnanimous gesture acknowledging the tough economic times?
