First things first: The opinion reflected in the headline above is NOT this blogger’s opinion.
But Joe Florkowski at Big A Baseball makes his case on the matter, suggesting the Angels have so many holes to fill, spending gobs of cash in this uncertain economy for one big-name player, even Mark Teixeira (pictured in cold-weather gear) won’t make a difference.
Florkowski points out the 2009 Angels already figure to be without Francisco Rodriguez (62 saves), Garret Anderson (84 RBIs), Jon Garland (14 victories), backup OF Juan Rivera and possibly Teixeira from their 100-victory squad of 2008.
Teixeira, Manny Ramirez or CC Sabathia can’t plug all those holes, he contends.
We are in agreement that Kendry Morales presents a viable lineup option who should be deployed next season. That could be at first base; in left if Anderson doesn’t return; or in right if Vladimir Guerrero is pretty much the fulltime DH — the direction the Angels seem to be heading with that slugger.
