Angels, Dodgers arbitration offers due

December 1st, 2008, 8:03 am · Post a Comment · posted by Earl Bloom, staff writer

Today is A-Day: The final day teams are allowed to offer salary arbitration on a one-year deal to their players who have filed for free agency.
This will only be done to secure draft-pick compensation for those players classified as Type A or Type B free agents. The Angels’ Type A free agents are Mark Teixeira (pictured), Francisco Rodriguez and Darren Oliver; Garret Anderson and Jon Garland are Type B. A Juan Rivera signing by another team would not bring the Angels any compensation.
Manny Ramirez and Derek Lowe are the Dodgers’ Type A players; Joe Beimel, Jeff Kent, Casey Blake and Greg Maddux are Type B.
The deadline is 9 p.m.
Players offered salary arbitration have until Sunday to accept or reject the offer.
MetsBlog.com has a pretty detailed rundown of how free-agent compensation works.
