The Angels will skip their bi-annual Fan Fest event this off-season due to scheduling issues with motocross events at Angel Stadium and the second World Baseball Classic.
The two-day event featuring appearances and autograph signings by players as well as activities for fans was held in the parking lot surrounding Angel Stadium just before spring training in February 2005 and 2007 with plans to hold it every other year.
This year, however, the final event in the AMA Supercross series at Angel Stadium is scheduled for Feb. 7, leaving little time before the opening of spring training to schedule Fan Fest. The opening of spring training has been moved up this year to accommodate the WBC. The first workout for WBC teams is scheduled for Feb. 18.
“It’s really a combination of scheduling (that prompted the decision to skip Fan Fest in 2009),” Angels vice president of communications Tim Mead said. “The motocross event on Jan. 31 was cancelled and they had the option to reschedule on Feb. 7 which would have been the weekend we would have done the Fan Fest. This facility would not really be open for Fan Fest then a motocross that same night.”
How disappointing. I look forward to attending this event with my son and friends. We think this should be an annual event as it is. Who knows if they are going to have one in 2010 since they are hosting the All-Star Game that year. I hope they still have one in 2010.
A FEW YEARS AGO THAT WOULDNT HAVE MATTERED I SEE ALOT OF CHANGE IN THE ANGELS ORGANIZATION NONE OF IT GOOD !
I am very dissapointed with this organization. What about the “honda center”they are not looking out for their fans, 1st with not signing Tex and now this. Im boycotting the 2009 season.
