Shortstops on the move: Greene, Wilson, Renteria

December 4th, 2008, 10:13 am · Post a Comment · posted by Earl Bloom, staff writer

According to reports, San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene has been traded, as has Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson. But Greene (pictured, with Padres 3B coach Glenn Hoffman) isn’t coming to the Angels in a Jake Peavy deal or otherwise, and the Dodgers’ pursuit of Wilson didn’t pay off.
ESPN reports the St. Louis Cardinals have obtained Greene from San Diego. And the Detroit Tigers, who have long been interested in Wilson, finally got him from Pittsburgh according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Among free-agent shortstops, Edgar Renteria is being strongly linked to the San Francisco Giants and the Rafael Furcal-Oakland Athletics links won’t go away.
