Report: K-Rod, Mets close

December 9th, 2008, 7:54 am · 3 Comments · posted by Earl Bloom, staff writer

It looks like Francisco Rodriguez might net about $3 million by leaving the Angels.
The New York Post reports K-Rod agent Paul Kinzer is optimistic about reaching agreement on a three-year, $37 million dollar deal with the New York Mets.
If that’s the deal, Rodriguez will fall far short of the five-year, $75 million pact envisioned when he set the major league single-season saves record with 62 in 2008. And it’s only $3 million more than Rodriguez turned down in a three-year offer from the Angels last year, instead going to arbitration and getting $10 million when he lost.
Rodriguez, 26, has spent his entire career with the Angels.
The flamboyant Venezuelan right-hander helped them win the 2002 World Series as a rookie setup man for Troy Percival.

This is sad. Making the deal for $1 million more per year than what he could have had with the Angels last year was obviously done so Frankie and his agent can save face. It also is obvious his agent leaked the 2-year, $24 million rumor so this deal would look better.

Frankie was a great player for the Angels and I expect we will miss him more than we think. However, is it worth an extra 3 million a year (before taxes) to move from playing here to playing in NY for a team that did not make the playoffs last season solely because of its bullpen? I think he is going to end up missing us as well.

See you later Frankie, dont let the door hit you on your way out! Ive had enough of his nailbitting season as an Angel, he was never lightsout and never will be, always so-so.

The Mets can have Frankie. We don’t need more overpriced players. Besides I don’t have any fingernails anymore after watching Frankie pitch and I have heard that Mets fans nails are too long.
