Nats willing to go 10 for Tex, report says

December 10th, 2008, 3:28 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Sam Miller, The Orange County Register

LA Times: A source says the Nationals are willing to meet Mark Teixeira’s demand for 10 years, at a rate of about $20 million per.

You’d think Teixeira would want to play for a winner (as he said), but it seems like it’s always the mediocre team that offers blow-me-away money (Giants and Zito, Rockies and Hampton, Rangers and ARod, etc). The Nationals and the Orioles (who are willing to go nine years, per the same report) might be the drunk guys at the auction this year.

This sort of conflicts with an earlier report that the Nationals have offered $150 million. And it could always be someone close to Teixeira starting rumors to try to drive the price up.

I asked a few weeks ago how much Teixeira is worth, but now that a few deals have been signed, lets see if any minds are changed.

.

How high should the Angels go for Mark Teixeira if he insists on a 10-year contract?
