Yahoo! Sports’ Jose Mota reports new Angels closer Brian Fuentes has accepted Manager Davey Johnson’s invitation to pitch for the United States in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Fuentes, a Team USA WBC original from the inaugural 2006 tournament, joins new teammate John Lackey and Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt as the only top-tier pitchers to commit to Johnson thus far.

During his telephone conference call last week after signing with the Angels, Fuentes had related that he had been contacted by Team USA and was mulling the offer.

Players joining new franchises sometimes get a pass to ignore such requests, but the left-hander will join Lackey in donning the red, white and blue before taking on American League competition fulltime as an Angel.
