It was speculated somewhere in the off-season swamp that the Angels might make a run at Derek Lowe. Not to be, though — he agreed with the Braves on a deal for four years, $60 million. He’s worth the dollars, though the fourth year might be a stretch. Definitely bump him up a little on your fantasy draft chart, because that infield behind him is going to be real strong.
That’s a great move by the Braves, who now have a No. 1 starter again with Smoltz gone and Glavine’s status uncertain. I would much rather be paying the Lowe contract than the A.J. Burnett contract, although I understand Sam’s concern about the fourth year. Problem is, you probably can’t make the deal without the fourth year.
Yeah, and it’s probably no disaster even then. It’s a really solid move right now, and makes the AJ Burnett deal look a little silly.
He’s a Scott Boras client - did you think the Angels were going to consider him??
This deal definitely makes the Burnett deal look ridiculous. However, the bar is now set for the John Lackey extension.
