Wings shortage grips Arizona

March 25th, 2009, 3:02 pm · 6 Comments · posted by BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM

TEMPE, Ariz.

The Angels have batted around twice in the first four innings against the Rockies today, scoring seven runs each in the second and fourth to build a 15-6 lead.

It is the fourth consecutive game (third at home) that the Angels have scored in double figures — which means free wings at Claim Jumper.

The Angels have scored 53 runs in their past 29 turns at bat. After hitting 14 home runs in their previous three games, though, they haven’t cleared the fences once today. Instead, Erick Aybar has a pair of triples. Bobby Abreu has driven in four runs with a pair of doubles. Juan Rivera has driven in four with a single and a double.

Is this game going to be as bad as Sunday? Lots of runs and lots of horrible pitching? Can’t they just have a huge laugher blowout?

  • Brian says:

Maybe the rule should be if the pitching gives up double digits in runs when the offense score double digits then no free wings. What’s with the lousy pitching from the Angels? Is there at least a good excuse like a tornado whirling around the ballpark?

  • BILL PLUNKETT, OCREGISTER.COM says:

Brian — Why would you want to take wings away from the people? They deserve something after watching this mess today.

  • Brian says:

I’m just trying to help Claim Jumper stay in business. Is the ump squeezing everyone? I can understand the game Sunday but I don’t see heavy wind on mlb.com.

  • Enrique Pollazzo says:

The wind was blowing directly out.
    Lousy pitching by the Angels?
No, more like lousier pitching from everyone else.

  • Brian says:

Enrique - You said the wind was blowing out but from what I read it was just 5 MPH. That shouldn’t be enough to cause poor pitching. Sunday it was 26 to 38 MPH. I can see that. You can’t expect to have no wind.
