Dallas McPherson, coming off a 42-homer season in Triple-A in 2008, was released by the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night after they failed to find a trading partner for the third baseman, who is out of options.
McPherson, 28, hit 18 homers in 360 at-bats as an Angel from 2004-06. The Angels let Troy Glaus escape in free agency because of McPherson’s emergence from the minor leagues, but injuries derailed his career in Anaheim.
Emilio Bonifacio won the Marlins’ third-base job, and with Jorge Cantu set at first base and Gaby Sanchez also in the picture, Florida had no room for McPherson, who plays both corners of the infield.
