Stephen, you’ve really got to stop stalking these guys.
But here’s video on FutureAngels.com of John Lackey working out at the extended spring training camp in Arizona, shot by Stephen C. Smith.
Ervin Santana was scheduled to throw approximately 45 pitches over three innings in a camp game Wednesday, Lackey on Thursday. Both are likely to take their rehab assignments to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga after that.
Just got back from Arizona …
Ervin Santana worked three controlled innings, probably about 40 pitches. He gave up a solo homer to Roberto Lopez (2008 Pioneer League MVP with Orem Owlz) to lead off the second.
Starting pitcher for the other squad was Pilljoon Jang. So far he has two nicknames, “P.J.” and “Poontang.”
Ervin, who’s Dominican, was pitching to Japanese catcher Ikko Sumi. Korean P.J. was pitching to Roberto Lopez, who’s from USC and bilingual (English-Spanish). Ya gotta love how baseball brings people together.
John Lackey came by to watch Ervin pitch.
Anyway, lots of video of Santana and Jang, which will be on FutureAngels.com in the next day or two. The Lopez HR will be online tonight; an interview I recorded with Roberto will be online tomorrow with more stuff.
A flu bug is going through camp, and seems to have followed me home. I’m not oinking yet, though, so maybe it’s not swine flu. :-)
The Roberto Lopez video is on FutureAngels.com now along with an interview. He was the Pioneer League MVP last year, batting .400 with 14 HR in a half-season league.
I’ll try to have the video of Santana’s start online sometime today.
I also posted a brief video clip of Luis Jimenez, who’s known as “Lucho.” He led the Pioneer League last year with 15 HR. He had labrum surgery so he’s rehabbing right now; Lucho wanted to film a spot to tell the world he’ll be back soon, so there it is.
You will know that the bandwagon fans are watching these videos when you get complaints that they are not in HD.
What does that have to do with anything? So if people complain on message boards that Angels games aren’t shown in HD, they’re somehow “bandwagon fans?”
No pitching!! I am a fan of baseball, but I am tired of seeing so many players with ERA’s in the 5 plus range and average’s below 250. They need to consolidate the league, not to mention what happened to the homegrown talent in the US. What about our own kid’s who grow-up and play, I am tired of seeing these guy’s from other countries step-in at 30yrs of age from some farm (just an opinion).
And a pretty ignorant opinion, at that.
What happened to the homegrown talent in the US? Go check out the skate parks and basketball courts! If you’re really a fan of baseball it shouldn’t matter what the players look or sound like.
Does anyone know when Lackey or Santana will be in Rancho Cucamonga ? Possible dates?
Santana is tentatively scheduled for Monday, which is the last game of the Quakes’ homestand. Lackey would be the next day, but the Quakes are on the road at Modesto. The Angels once sent Kelvim Escobar to Modesto to make a rehab start with the Quakes, so it could happen again.
Won’t be Rancho, Ellen. You’ll have to road trip it to Salt Lake — Santana on Monday, Lackey on Tuesday.
Shouldn’t be long before you see them in Anaheim.
Read about it on the blog later.
Hmmm … Long-range forecast has it fairly chilly in SLC for Monday/Tuesday evenings, you’d think they’d want them throwing in warmer weather.
