The Angels won’t be facing the league’s leading hitter this week.

The Red Sox just announced that they are placing Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5, because of a strained rib-cage muscle. Youkilis is batting .393 with six home runs and 20 RBIs.

Boston recalled infielder Gil Velazquez.
