Randal Grichuk, the 24th overall pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, agreed to terms on a contract with the Angels on Saturday.
Grichuk, 18, will report to the Arizona Rookie League on Sunday to begin his trip through the Angels’ farm system. He will be slotted into right field, according to Eddie Bane, the Angels’ Director of Scouting.
“That’s one great thing about getting Randal done early,” Bane said. “He’s going to get to play this year.”
Though he measures in at 6-0 and 195 pounds, Grichuk seems to have all of the tools that the Angels have been looking for in a first-round selection. He can hit for power (21 home runs in 28 games this past season), and drove in 48 runs, has good speed and arm strength.
“I expected to sign,” Grichuk said. “We had an agreement pretty soon. It was to my liking and I went with it.”
nice!
hopefully, he’ll get a good amount of exposure this year and starts his quick ascent through the system.
and i also hope we sign Trout soon…
I hate to rain on everyone’s parade but…
Grichuck looks like a little kid. I don’t not see him developing into a major league power hitter.
Trout has a messed-up swing. He short-arms his swing. I don’t see him ever getting out of Double A.
Time will tell.
Oh, I had no idea we had a professional scout on our hands! Eddie Bane better hope the Angels front office doesn’t read this post, or his job may be in trouble…
Carlos FTW.

you should really get a job in the FO so you can save our organization from making these silly, thoughtless mistakes ever again.
