According to the Seattle Times, Washington QB — and Angels’ 10th-round draft pick — Jake Locker met with Angels representatives Tuesday to discuss the possibility of signing a contract with the team.
Locker cannot hire an agent without losing his college eligibility so he and his father attended the meeting in Seattle. The Angels have until August 17 to sign Locker. If they do, they could retain his rights for six years — long enough to become a fallback option if Locker’s dreams of an NFL career are not realized.
According to Locker’s father, Jake has made it clear to the Angels that he is not interested in playing baseball this summer and probably not next summer either, preferring to focus on his final two years as the Huskies’ QB.
I wouldn’t count Eddie Bane out. The man knows what he’s doing. What a coup if the Halos can get this athlete in their system.
Back in the mid-1990s, I covered Chad Hutchinson at Stanford. He never fully committed to either sport and wound up never quite realizing his potential in either.
My guess is Locker sticks to football.
