PHOENIX
After driving in three runs with a double and advancing to third on an error, Angels outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. stole home against Diamondbacks starter Max Scherzer.
It was the first steal of home by an Angel since Orlando Cabrera did it against the Dodgers on July 2, 2006.
It was the second time Matthews has done it in his career. The first came on June 4, 1999 with the Padres against the Mariners. That was how Matthews scored his first run in the major leagues.
Note that it was with Aybar at the plate batting left-handed, similar to the controversial incident in the playoffs last year with Boston.
