Haren -- 6-5, 2.25 ERA

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Angels made an effort to start trade talks with the Arizona Diamondbacks regarding their best (healthy) starter, Dan Haren, and were rebuffed.

Haren would ease some of the questions in the Angels’ rotation where doubts have to remain about Ervin Santana even as he prepares to return to the rotation.

Haren is also signed through 2012 at a very reasonable salary — which would ease the Angels’ off-season urgency when it comes to re-signing John Lackey.

Kudos to the Angels for trying. But the Diamondbacks would be scorched in the desert if they gave Haren away with Brandon Webb also on the shelf.

And keep this in mind — Haren (and another pitcher) cost the Diamondbacks six prospects when they got him from the A’s.

Bill, I think that’s right on. For the Angels to consider going outside for a worthy No. 1 starter, that tells me they are emotionally distancing themselves from Lackey already. I think that relationship has a bad end in store.

ha! can’t blame ‘em for trying…
    hmm.. what to offer?

Haren for Mathis, Aybar, Bell/O’Sullivan, and S-Rod?

  • Joe says:

Dan Haren for Kendrick, and Barndon Wood. Wood is from Arizona. Hes out of Horzion High In Scottsdale. The D-backs wont give up Haren for nothing.

Thank God the Angels FO are polar opposite to Arizona. Ask Arizona how the Richie Sexson trade worked out for them. If I remember correctly they shipped a boat load of prospects to the Brewers for a year or two of Sexson before he bolted for Seattle.

Just imagine the depth they would have today if they don’t make that trade for Haren. They get a great pitcher with a good contract but now they lack depth in the system, particularly now that Webb is injured.

  • Marcus says:

Haren for Matthews, Jr. straight up. Okay, Reagins might have to get the entire state of Arizona a little tipsy before successfully negotiating that one. He may have to throw in (gulp) Jepsen as well.

  • RDV says:

Forget Matthews for Haren. Better to pay half of Matthews salary for Arizona to own him. Then give Figgins the money you saved on Mattthews ludicrous salary. Davis would be a better fit for the Angel mantra…underpay an over-achiever.

Haren is a good pitcher and would really help. Haren for Vlad…..

  • Mike V. says:

You guys are all way too light in your offer for Haren. He is a front end starter and those guys aren’t cheap. It would take multiple players to get someone like him. GMJ & Vlad would only get a laugh out of the Arizona GM. You would have to throw something like: Wood, Howie, Mathis, Willits, plus 2-3 minor league pitchers into the mix . . . and even that might not be enough. If you could throw in GMJ somewhere in there and pay about half his salary I’d throw him in too.

  • Jake Logan says:

I have to laugh when you guys propose trades. Uhm major league GMs are not stupid. If you’re asking for one of the top 5 pitchers in the league, you’re going to have to give up equal value. That means at least 2 or possible 3 solid “major leaguers”. Stop proposing guys in he minor leagues, especially guys who’ve been sent back because of failure to perform at the big league level or guys you don’t like on your big leaue club (Mathews). It’s not going to happen. You’re not trading with your drunk cousin Vinny.
