Attack on agent Boras’ vehicle is just wrong

Attorney-bashing is almost an American birthright, but this is taking it too far.Yankees Teixeira Baseball

Police said uber-agent Scott Boras’  Land Rover received $2,000 in damage when it was vandalized outside the Bandera Restaurant in Corona del Mar on Monday evening.

According to the coronadelmartoday.com report, it seems Boras was inside the restaurant at the time — which makes this attack cowardly, as well as senseless. I am just glad it was only his windows that were damaged.

All kinds of flip lines occur to me — where was Arte Moreno between 9:15-10:10 p.m., for example — but really, vandalism isn’t funny (not that I have ever had a car anyone would give a second look to, let alone strike with a baseball bat).

Fans being fans, I understand why they dislike Boras so much. He does his job too well, and either takes players away from the fans’ teams, and/or gets them what is regarded as too much money. Believe me, Mark Teixeira doesn’t think Boras is bad for the game.

If you don’t like what Teixeira is paid, blame the folks paying him before you blame the facilitator. And certainly, don’t dent his ride.

If nothing else, think about how much Boras’ Newport Beach-based business stimulates the Orange County economy. That’s how I am gonna approach it when his client, Jered Weaver, hits free agency.

I haven’t dealt with Boras in years, since I don’t cover baseball in that manner any longer. But when we did speak, he was always highly professional and  pleasant. He also knew how to play the game then, and is even better at it now.

Look, it’s just like blaming Albert Pujols for being the best hitter in baseball. No. 1, he can’t help it, and No. 2, he’s supposed to be. And No. 3, he gets paid to be — although the Cardinals need to do much better with his next contract.

Whoever you are, Land Rover beater, grow up before you hurt someone, or yourself. And, since you can probably only hit a parked car, you should not be so jealous of Alex Rodriguez, or Manny Ramirez, or Magglio Ordonez.

  • Al Balderas, staff writer says:

I agree that stuff like this shouldn’t happen but it seems that assumptions are being made here.
Is there proof that the vandal knew the Land Rover belonged to Scott Boras, or is that just assumed because we now that a lot of people don’t like Boras?
I agree that Boras is the best at what he does, and I agree that he’s looked upon in a negative way by a lot of so-called baseball fans but that doesn’t automatically mean that Boras was targeted.
I had the window to my car busted in a few years ago and I seriously doubt that the culprit even knew who I was.

    • David says:

I am not condoning what the person did to Boras’ car but karma is a funny thing.

    • yadthink says:

Earl, your fine example of jumping to conclusions about who the perp was succeeded in getting my mouse click, but at the cost of some credibility.

      • Danny says:

Someone should vandalize Mike Scoscia’s car, specifically slash the tires. That guy is getting obese and should walk to and from the stadium.

  • KEITH SHARON, OCREGISTER.COM says:

Al, I’m sure the culprit who bashed your car did not like your harsh evaluation of the brisket sandwich at Angel Stadium.

  • brianguy says:

I agree with Al Balderas, and beyond that who cares. just another petty crime in OC.

    • Earl Bloom, staff writer says:

brianguy, you cared enough to comment.

Just another petty crime? That’s one which happens to somebody else. Have fun living in your vacuum.

  • Bob says:

    This is not targeting Boras!
He ticked someoff really bad on the
road a la Land Rover style. You see
the owners drive on the road ?

Therefore, bam ! Pay back ..

No one will back up Boras as a witness.

  • Eddie "The Combo" Irvine says:

    who cares, it insured.

    • Earl Bloom, staff writer says:

      Who cares, its insured?

Do you realize everytime someone files a claim and gets paid, it affects everyone else’s rates in that area, not just theirs? And those uninsured motorists are killing all of us.

Again, you live-in-a-vacuum guys amaze me.

      • Earl, they’re just smart mouths who take courage from the anonymity of the Internet. They wouldn’t have the guts to talk like that in the real world face-to-face.

        • Danny says:

Look who’s talking. Stephen C. Smith is quickly becoming the biggest troll on this Angels blog. And I don’t see him posting his address oir phone number. Go back under your bridge, Stevie!!

  • Pinky says:

    I don’t live in a vacuum, I have a house.

I too, am against people smashing other people’s car windows.

  • Papagiorgio says:

Well, the vandals did stimulate the economy because the repair shop is going to get some business. This person should be viewed as a hero. And our increased insurance rates go to local insurance agents, again, stimulating our economy. It’s win, win.

  • PC says:

Has anyone considered that Boras may have cut someone off while driving to the resturant? The offended driver may have followed him and once he parked, took out thier revenge on the vehicle.

  • Jake Logan says:

Please tell me none of you morons had children.

  • Ed says:

Did I miss something? Where in the article does it state that his car was vandalized because of who he is and what he does? For all we know he was driving like an fool and pssed off someone. Not that I condone the vandalism, but serves him right for driving like a tool. For all we know he parked his SYV in a “compact” spot or took up two spaces, that also deserves a smack as far as I am concerned. Shameless PR from an over paid person IMO.

  • Mark Saxon says:

    Al,

I confess. I smashed your window. I really wanted that Ryan Getzlaf bobblehead doll you left in the passenger’s seat.

  • ihatefatgurls says:

Who called the paper about this anyways ??

  • Dnoodle says:

Well cars are not usually vandalized when the owner is in the car or watching…So I dunno its its cowardly or just kinda of thing vandals do……they make sure no one is looking.

OK I am going back to my cozy vacuum…

  • occoach says:

Maybe, Scott told someone to mix in a salad.

  • Bobby V says:

    JOHN HENRY DID IT!!!!!

  • whattheheck says:

It’s okay, folks, I’m sure Boras will manage to con some of the MLB owners into putting up a collection to pay for parts and labor expenses.
