Who were the best off-season acquistions?
The All-Star Game rosters, given the criteria of the selections, are not totally indicative of who is having a great season (just ask Jered Weaver and the Dodgers’ Juan Pierre).
Brian Fuentes, who leads the majors with 24 saves, is on the list. And Angels fans will also recognize free-agent defectors Francisco Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira.
The Cubs trading a 10-game winner Jason Marquis to the Rockies for a pitcher they released, and the so-far one-sided transaction that sent former Dodger Edwin Jackson to Detroit from Tampa Bay also stick out.
Chicago might have done better getting a bucket of balls for Marquis. The Cubs got reliever Luis Vizcaino, who made four scoreless appearance for Chicago before it strangely released him. Vizcaino has since been signed and released by Cleveland.
