Chone Figgins of the Angels was added to the AL All-Star squad for tonight’s game.
Starting third baseman Evan Longoria of Tampa Bay had to scratch because of an infected finger, and Texas’ Michael Young will take Longoria’s place in the lineup.
Longoria has an infected right ring finger, and on Monday the medication he was taking made him ill.
Figgins joins Brian Fuentes to give the Angels two All-Star representatives. Outfielder Torii Hunter was selected, but went on the disabled list Friday.
It is the first All-Star selection for Figgins, who is hitting .310 and has scored an AL-leading 68 runs.
RELATED: More on Figgins the All-Star
We’re in first place and the only two teams in baseball with better records are the Dodgers and Red Sox (technically Yankees too/played more games than us) and last year we had more wins than any team… and yet we get Figgins on after how many other players were added? Pena is hitting 228 and he was taken over Figgins who is playing gold glove third base and in the top 10 in 10 categories…. but I’ll take it. Better late than never.
LA Guy, see this column I posted earlier this morning and note the Angels and Dodgers vote totals vs. attendance. Sad.

I went to many Angel games during the time ballots were suppose to be available to ‘punch’. where were there? I did not see any ballots at Anaheim Stadium and any games I attended.
Glad to see Figgy on the team. He’s earned a nod this year with his fantastic offense and quality defense. A first place team deserves more than one All-Star.
the all star game is nothing but a popularity contest. every year it’s always the yankees and boston players in it.
Everyone is whining that there are not more Angels in the ASG. Its’ the fans that vote them in and the ballots have been out for months. If people in OC want their team represented then they need to vote (as often as possible)
It’s not just an Angels problem, it’s a Dodgers problem now too. http://fromthedugout.freedomblogging.com/2009/07/14/angels-dodgers-short-on-all-star-representation/29719/
This is awesome news. Figgins is a great player and a stand up guy. He definitely deserves to make the all-star team.
Yay, my vote does count! Go Figgy!
Awesome, so much deserved. Weaver should be in there too though.
Yaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy Figgy!! Really happy for you! Well deserved!!
