Padilla designated and lineups

August 7th, 2009, 5:50 pm · 3 Comments · posted by MARK SAXON, OCREGISTER.COM

* The Rangers designated for assignment starting pitcher Vicente Padilla. He was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA and makes $12 million, so it’s doubtful anyone will claim him off waivers.

* Mike Scioscia said Torii Hunter (groin injury) could start a rehab assignment next week with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and join the Angels in Baltimore for their series that starts Aug. 14. Hunter is starting to get frustrated with the slow pace of his rehab, but trying to stay positive.

Man our pitching is just fine. No need to make a move. Let’s creep into October with glaring holes in the rotation and bullpen.

  • The MLB Extra Innings feed last night had the Rangers’ telecast, and boy were the Rangers broadcasters bashing Padilla. Basically, they were saying that everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction and Padilla was not. They also said that, after he was given his notice, Padilla put on his Rangers uniform and went out to the field to run just like any other day, as if it were a “Try to stop me” moment.

  • quinlan's goofy swing says:

In his last start, Padilla was seen laughing and mocking the home plate umpire who gave a warning to both teams, after Michael Young got plunked in retaliation for a Padilla plunking. Not surprised at all that they let him go. The Rangers broadcasters kept harping on it, and rightfully so, no pitcher should be laughing about a teammate getting plunked, especially when you were the one who caused it.
