CLEVELAND
Torii Hunter is back in the lineup after getting Monday off. Angels manager Mike Sciosica has said Hunter will get back into the No. 3 spot in the lineup eventually. For today, though, Juan Rivera is there with Bobby Abreu slipping up to No. 2 behind Chone Figgins.
“It’s what we were going to do the other day before Vlad came down sore,” said Scioscia, referring to Sunday’s game when Guerrero was sidelined for a day after getting in the knee by a pitch.
“It gives us some versatility. We’ve a got a deep lineup with a lot of parts we can move around. Juan has hit third for us before. It’s a good fit for us until Torii is ready to get back up there.”
For the record, Rivera has only made 10 starts in his career in the No. 3 spot (four this season) and is 17 for 54 (.315) there overall (including entering the game as a substitute).
Hunter could play all three games in Cleveland this week but won’t play all three on the turf in Toronto this weekend.
And no sign of the thunderstorms we were supposed to be on guard for here in Cleveland. The sky is clear as the teams take batting practice.
