Students from one of the local schools adopted by the Angels as part of their two-year-old  ”Adopt-A-School” program will be on the field today for the Angels’ off-day workout at Angel Stadium.

Students from  Sycamore Elementary School in Orange will have lunch in the Diamond Club where Angels pitcher Matt Palmer and broadcasters Terry Smith and Jose Mota will join them before heading down to the field to meet more of the players and watch the Angels’ workout.

The event is part of Major League Baseball’s “Going Beyond” Campaign which encourages teams to be involved in their local communities.

Through their Angels Foundation charity, the Angels  ”Adopt-A-School” program donates $1,000 grants to five elementary schools as well as a school supplies pack for each student at the school and a school wide assembly with an Angels player. Five selected high schools receive a grant for their baseball and softball programs. All 10 schools receive Angels tickets to be used as part of the schools’ incentive programs.

In addition to Sycamore Elementary, the 2009 adopted schools were Orange Grove Elementary & Palm Lane Elementary in Anaheim, Clinton- Mendenhall Elementary in Garden Grove, Wilson Elementary in Santa Ana, Anaheim High School & Magnolia High School in Anaheim, Santiago High School in Garden Grove, El Modena High School in Orange and Saddleback High School in Santa Ana.
