That’s 51 saves for Fuentes, and on to New York

Wow. Brian Fuentes did get another save as an Angel.

No. 51 this season, whether you’re counting or not. Two outs, 3-2, bases loaded. Nick Swisher pops up. Routine.

On to New York, Bill Plunkett.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am one of those people who ask how many, not how.

By the way, as one of you suggested, I would never object to seeing Daisy Fuentes, with perhaps this one exception.

That’s all.

How many blown saves on the season?
    Or this series?

    Could be up 3-2 :)

saves has to be one of the most worthless stats in baseball. When the team wins as many close games as the angels do any arm can that many saves. think of all of the cheap 1 out saves frankie got last year when a runner would get to 2nd with a 4 run lead to create a save situation and then scioscia would bring him in.

Fuentes got a lot of cheap 2 out saves this year, after Bulger would start the 9th to get out the other team’s best right handed hitter.

No way is Fuentes closing for this team next year past the asb, and had shields not been injured, he would have been the man closing these games out.

Heck, if Bulger wasn’t nursing his shoulder, he’d be the man right now. He had the filthiest numbers out of anyone in the pen this year.

    1. The answer to the first question is 8. The percentage is 86.4 percent.

    2. Also, the series could be over. Intentionally walking the tying run when it’s not Babe Ruth is pretty risky.

    3. Saves are the most overrated stat since …. outs? They only matter when you don’t get them.

    4. Not only do saves not count, there are even worse ones, called cheap saves. How informative.

I guess that’s like a home run that lands in the front row in a stadium with dimensions that have been illegal since 1958 — except when grandfathered for the Yankees and their “replica” park.

Guess what, it’s still a home run. You can’t have it both ways.

    5. Being healthy is part of pitching. If Escobar was healthy, the Angels would have another good arm in the bullpen. He’s not. Moseley too.

Why didn’t Sciocia leave Weaver in to close it out? Fuentes nearly blew it. He’s proven to be a very average closer. Weaver threw beautifully in the eighth inning. I just about crapped when Fuentes loaded the bases and took Swisher to 3-2. I think Weaver would have put it away nicely.
