Wow. That is pretty sad. You couldn’t wait long enough after the Angel loss to point out to everyone that your prediction was right. Maybe you give up your career as a sportswriter and start one as a sport bookie. At least no one will accuse you of being a homer.
Like I said, Figgins leading off against lefties will be exposed.
Scioscia had almost as bad a post season as his leadoff hitter and outfielders.
At some point in the next 10 years, Scioscia will learn that he needs to bench under performing players in the playoffs, and play the hot hand. No reason Mathis or Kendrick should have sat in any of the games against the Yankees.
Unlike Girardi, Scioscia actually needs to make moves. He doesn’t have the luxury of having the best team money can buy.
It’s difficult to accept the Angels demise when the strenth of the team..clutch hitting, baserunning, defense and getting on base disappeared during the series and fans had to depend on Jeff Mathis to carry the entire team…..
Really? Thank You Bill who is going to win the world seriesin 2012…Mr. Know it all. I thought a beat writer is suppose to be a fan of the Angels. We all knew that you were right. There is NO reason for you to reminded us all. You don’t even care that Angels lost and that is a shame. A real Shame.
As odd as it seems, a beat writer isn’t supposed to be a fan of the team they write about. However, a bet writer is supposed to cover their team objectively.
Since Bill has seen, spoken with and has had more privy information about the Angels than anyone who doesn’t cover the team, I would say that he was being objective when he predicted Boston to win the ALDS and the Yankees to win the ALCS.
No reason to go off half-cocked about someone who was only half-right about their prediction …
Ok maybe he shouldn’t be a fan. You could be right about that. However, why post again that you were right, right after the game. Bill needs to know he’s not a fan but we are. And I don’t want to come on here after the Angels lost and see some beat writer jumping up and down saying he was right. All is fine because Bill was right. Tell me what the Angels are going to do to in the off season to be a better franchise.
What Will is saying here is that while it’s fine and dandy to go ahead and make predictions, to turn around and rub it in peoples faces is lacking of character and unprofessional. It’s one thing amongst bloggers and amongst friends but in a professional manner as a writer to do the whole “I told you so ha ha!” to the fans who read these articles is bush league. While I have my own opinion of it all I think this pretty much breaks it down.
It looks as though the Angels were put together for a 160 game grind and not a ALCS playoff series. The Yankees finally got it right picking up two premier pitchers during the off season. Are you listening Mr. Angels GM. Good luck in the up coming off season.
Wasting your time with the Register writers will only drive you crazy. True they’re not supposed to be fans and should be objective about the team. But when did posting an “I told you so” qualify as a story? The Last time I checked you’re not newsworthy Bill! No one is here to be reminded you picked the winner.
As a reader of the Register (and that is becoming harder to stomach each passing day) I was hoping to read a season ending recap from the man that is closest to the team each day. Maybe get some insights and player quotes from the team to wrap up the most challenging season in Angels history. I’m sure someone is working on that.
Well let me just congratulate you Bill on picking the winner of this series, you’re the man!
If anyone is interested a fan wrote a great season recap on the LA Times Blog. I know it’s from a fan’s point of view and will lack the professional objectivity of the Register writers but it’s better than anything you’ll read here.
I agree that Bill shouldn’t be a fan, but needs to be objective as a writer covering the Angels. But to proclaim that “I am right” sounds like he is more concerned about himself being right. That seems to fly in the face of “objectivity”. Save it for your friends and co-workers. Angel fans don’t really care.
Every morning I wake up, I start my day by reading the sports section of the Register. I dont always agree with all the columns written about the Angels, but I understand that there are differing opinions then mine. After seeing this I will no longer buy the Register or read it online. After a heartbreaking loss, I do not need to see my local beat writer rubbing their prediction in my face. I will no longer purchase the Register and will be notifying all my Angel friends that they should also do the same. Bill should think about his audience before making such remarks.
(These projections are an average of six common statistical forecasting systems. They are based on the players' previous performances, ages and, in some cases, physical characteristics.)

I said 7. I blame myself.
blaming yourself? I figured you’d compare it to rape, murder or general mayhem

Wow. I guess it’s better to be right about your prediction than to write about the series. You’re my hero.

“Like I said…”??
Are you serious? What a tool!!
Nice work Bill, way to show some class you clown!!
Be sure the next time you interview one of the Angels you lead things off by telling them “Like I said…Yankees in 6″ you coward! See what happens.

I said it too. After the series against Boston, I had hopes. But after Game 1 of the ALCS, I knew it was over. I said Yankees in 6.

Good guess. I called Halos in 7. Too many errors ruined my prediction. I didn’t figure the Angels would fold, defensively. Kudos to you.
