ARod the ‘centaur of attention’

November 2nd, 2009, 7:47 am · Post a Comment · posted by Sam Miller, The Orange County Register

Surprisingly, Tim McCarver and Joe Buck left this out of their commentary during the weekend games:

A former Rodriguez fling remembers seeing portraits of the slugger, 34, as a centaur hanging over his bed.

“He was so vain,” his ex tells Us Weekly. “He had not one, but two painted portraits of himself as a centaur. You know, the half man, half horse figure?”

Here’s some of my favorite one-liners from the Twitterverse:

On the pitch that hit ARod in the first inning: “That ball really rode in on ARod.” — Me

Also after that HBP: “I hope A. Rod will be ok. It would be a shame if they had to shoot him after the game.” — OldHossRadbourn

On his winning hit last night: “Just spoke to W. Boggs, hes coming to ride Alex around warning track if Yanks win.” — Pete Abraham, Boston Globe.

On that double: “A-Rod was safe at second by 4 lengths.” — Ed Price, Fanhouse.com

“Blanton hits me again and he’ll have more than the umpires to worry about. The ASPCA will be all over him.” — IamCentaur

“One other thing: today was drug-testing day. You should’ve seen the look on the collector’s face when I had to give a urine sample.” — IamCentaur

And, from the Sporting Blog, the ARod-Centaur animated gif.
